Situation
In view of the need to manage information and report to the board on internal and retail crime and security issues, leading mobile telecom company O2 sought tarantula.net’s help for creating an online service that would help them not just capture data, but also provide a real-time view of the security and risk information across the O2 Europe group.
Solution
Tarantula.net, a trusted software supplier for O2, deployed the Web-based Crime Recording Service (CRS) that would enable O2 record, track and manage crime and risk-related information across all operating units in Europe, including a multi-lingual version for O2 Germany.
The Crime Recording Service is a customised version of tarantula.net’s Crime, Risk and Incident Management e-Service (CRIMe-S).
CRIMe-S is an innovative end2end Web-based Security Solution from tarantula.net; it reports, tracks and analyses incidents & accidents relating to workplace crime, health, safety & risk. CRIMe-S helps organisations save time and cut costs by streamlining and speeding up the security processes. It provides real-time analysis & reports on all crime and risk scenarios.
The CRS also manages all retail theft information across all of the O2 stores in the UK. |

|
The service ensures all incidents related to security risk, loss of organisational property, internal inappropriate behavioural incidents, and retail theft are reported to, & the investigative information managed by, the internal security teams.
The service speeds up crime/loss reporting and organisational processes and therefore enables security teams to become aware of the latest crime/loss incidents ensuring internal security teams can act fast and take the necessary actions.
The service is built using our core product Portula.net – a Content Integration Service, allowing users to publish content, report on data and manage process workflows.
It's an ‘out of the box’ content integration service, providing the ability to build multi lingual sites – all driven by common templates. |

Central Repository of Security & Risk related Information
The innovative CRS application acts as a central repository for all crime and risk related information and makes access to this information easier.
The CRS helps O2 record corporate-wide incidents, across multiple sites and countries, related to damage/loss to employee or organisation property and assets – incidents such as burglaries, assaults, criminal damage, fraud, theft, misuse, behavioural misconduct etc.
The complete details of the crime and the investigative findings are also stored and tracked with the help of the CRS.
A Web-Enabled Service
The CRS is a Web-enabled software service is available 24X7, anywhere. It is readily accessible from anywhere within the enterprise – allowing the process management of crime handling and reporting to be greatly improved, in terms of both time and resources management. All the information is readily available organisation-wide in a single click.
Data Encryption for Data Security
Data Encryption is done for security purposes and this ensures maximum security for the data entered on the system. The service is Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliant.

Enabling Risk Analysis and Strategising for Management
One of the main features of this service is its Reporting Capability, which allows organisations to track the trends in terms of internal crimes – the types of crime, the crime locations, and the information related to offenders.
This reporting ability makes CRS ideal for group-level reporting to the Board of a company to give them an instant enterprise risk view across multiple sites and geographic locations. The service is deployable across an organisation to give a corporate-level view of the risk and liabilities at any time.
The service allows real-time view on the level of risks the company is liable to, at any point in time, and allows any risk incidence to be reported straight to the board of a company.
Managing “whistle blowing” in a completely visible and audited way helps the C-level Management get a real-time view of the security and risk scenario and take strategic decisions accordingly.
Configurability & Managed Service Option
The CRS is configured to suit the security related processes of O2. The central database is independently managed as a software service by tarantula.net.

Process Workflow

 |
|
The service is protected by user-login. Users can register themselves to report incidents and raise a case. To report an incident, the User or requester fills in User Details, Incident Details, Property Details and Custom Details. When the user submits an incident, an e-mail is sent to the CRIMe-S Administrators, notifying them of the new incident.
Administrators can view the incident cases, and assign it to either themselves or other investigating officers. The administrators and investigating officers can add in the Offender Details, Custom Back-office Details and Progress Notes. Administrators can also Manage Users, i.e., set up login accounts for administrator users, requester users and investigative officers. The administrators can also Manage Look-ups, i.e., add, edit or delete the items in fields, and Manage Screens, i.e., decide on the elements of a particular screen. They can customise the application for their company by adding in the company logo and welcome notes in the Home Page. Also, they can run various reports to analyse different the types of incidents that occur. These reports give a view of incident information by incident types, incident locations, users and offenders etc.
